The house
So I dont know how much have mentioned about where i am living.. my grandma had a few questions, so I will answer them on here..the family isnt too big..there is the mama.. who was there at first, but is in Dar right now studing apparently( just found that out and she has been gone for 3 days!) the dad just got home yesterday..he was on business, so i have no idea how long he will be here for.. the first son, abdul (he is 21 i think) is always there.. he knows english and helps us out.. there is an adopted son, shedy(he is 22 maybe?), who is usually around as well.. then there is some guy who is always in dar, but comes home late every night to sleep and eat and then leaves again in the morning..we think he is the uncle.. there is also the house keeper, fatma.. she is very cute and knows no enlish, so it is always fun trying to talk with her….there is family who also lives near us and is always in and out of the house.. oh ya.. and some other guy.. a cousin maybe? is in school during the week and comes home on weekends. The house is actually way nicer than i expected.. it has a really nice living room with couches and a tv and radio.. but then they cook the food outside in a hut with charcoal.. it is quite interesting the combination of modern and traditional. and the house we are in is considered a weathy house! we also have a front yard with a gate, so it is pretty safe..and there is a dog house outside that is half the size of the house, and they get let out at night to be guard dogs.
the food has been decent.. my stomach has taken a little while to get used to it, but i think its alright now.. we almost always have rice, and that could come with beans, spinich, cabbage and peas, chicken and an AWESOME red sauce (pretty much just oil)..there is a dish of potatoes and bananas that we often have.. the bananas taste like potatoes though haha. oh ya.. we had pasta once. that was a nice change.. and breakfast is usually bread, tea and fruit. mangos are amazing! and oooooh my. our mama makes the best tea! i didnt think i would enjoy it in this heat, but i have it at least 3 times a day! yuummm
transpotation is quite interesting.. the easiest is just to walk, but everything is spread out so it takes a while. for our projects further away, we bike most of the time and it is 0.30 to rent a bike for an hour! there are also daladalas, but we havent tried those yet.. they are mini buses that will not leave until they are COMPLETELY full.. so you could be sitting there for 3 hours. litteraly. its quite funny to see though cause they are EVERYWHERE around town and most of the time there is half of a body sticking out the window, and people piled on top of each other.
