Work is in full swing now!
Monday is my busiest day of the week in terms of work. I start the day at the Faraja head office at 8am.. its a 30 min walk to get there!! Man, do they give us tedious work.. we are doing administrative stuff for them that is for a program called MVC (Most Vulnerable Children). This program finds the 3-5 most vulnerable children within each village in Morogoro rural district. These kids then receive blankets, mosquito nets, food, matresses, etc. to help their family. For each child and each time something is delivered (not everything is delivered at the same time) a form has to be filled out.. our jobĀ is to set up the forms.. the template is already done and all we have to do is type in “mosquito net” or “blanket”.. over, and over, and over again for 4 hours at a time.. it is interesting to see the system that the organization has in place to keep all the records straight.. and i mean interesting.. it is not the most efficient system i have ever seen. I’m guessing that it is partly due to their lack of familiarity with computers.. I’m just happy to know that I am helping them out a great deal!
After 4 hours there, i have an hour for lunch and then I have a class to teach at the shule.. however, apparently mama peace didnt relay the msg to other teachers that we would be teaching on fridays AND mondays.. so all the kids had gone home by the time we got there!! Thankfully, they were aware that we had girls club planned for 3pm. It is fun hanging out with the girls, especially the ones who really want to learn.. we just had a fun session prepared for them, and we made braclets with yarn and buttons.. we have to get quite creative with limited resources!!
On the way home we all purchased a piece of fabric that we will be getting made into a dress or skirt/ shirt, or something!! I can’t wait to get it tailored!
The kids are becoming more familliar with us in the neighbourhood now. While i was walking over to Chelsey and Gina’s house, I got swarmed by some kids. they all grabbed a hand/ arm and wanted to talk..either in broken english or broken swahili! I am trying to teach them my name so that I stop getting “Mzungu!” (foriegner). they walked me right to the girls house, and just kept yelling bye until they couldnt see me anymore, so cute!
Reading your blogs are like listening to you talk. I love them! I can’t get over the multitude of experiences you’ve already encountered. I smile and laugh each time I read an email or blog update from you. It warms my heart to see how the people, and especially the children are there. And I know you’ll be loving the chance to meet and interact with each and every one of them. I’ll send you my cinnamon carrots recipe. I was thinking mash potatoes too. Have fun clubbing on the weekend, and have a great safari adventure! Love you a bunch…Mama xoxoxo
