Mikumi!!!!
Weeeee went on a safari todayyy!!!! Mikumi National park is only about an hour and a bit outside of morogoro. We left at 5:30am this morning, so i am a little tired at the moment!! but it was sweeeeeeeeet.
we saw didnt see a huge variety of animals, but we were able to get so close to lots of them. we saw tons of twiga’s (giraffes), tembo’s(elephants), impalla, water buffalo…some monkeys, zebras, weird birds, a clocodile, some hippos..and a couple weird huge lizard type things. we felt very touristy going through the park, because the people who took us had done it a million times before.. we rented a van to drive us there and through the park also.. then we had to pay for a guide and the enterance fee.. it only ended up being about $70 each!! man, was it ever a bumpy ride there!! they love speed bumps to control the traffic.
it was the weirdest thing, becuase as soon as we passed the sign that said we were in Mikumi National park, it was like instant animals..we saw elephants right on the side of the road, some impallas, zebras and a couple giraffes. We say at least 50+ giraffes and elephants.. and probably 100+ impallas. I will try to put some pictures on next time i am on the computer, but it takes a while!! I took lots of videos as well that will be shown once i am home!!
The elephants were the best i would say.. and the scariest.. we thought it was cool being about 40m away from them, and then we keep following the road and realize there are some on the road ahead!!!! we were probably about 10m away from them at one point.. which was when the one started to flap its ears and begin charging at us… hoooooly were we scared!!! all you can do is stop the van and hope that the elephant doesnt feel threatened.. thankfully it calmed down, and lead its family the other way.. but it was awesome. that happened again later with an elephant that was by itself (it was a 5 legged elephant.. or so it looked!!! haa.).
zebras were definitely my favourite, and it sucks that we didnt get to see any cats of any kind.. i am planning on doing another safari in the serengeti, so hopefully we will see some there.. anyways, times up, so i will hopefully be able to update sooner this time.
I still am LOVING it here!!!!!!
At least the 5 legged elephant didn’t mount the van. Now that would have been a story.
Amazing!!! It would be awesome to see such animals in there natural habitat instead, we view them as “Zoo Animals”
Glad to hear you are still loving it and not home sick! Keep up the great work 🙂
