Zanzi!!
We woke up bright and early Saturday morning to catch the ferry and get there fast! It was very straight forward purchasing the tickets and getting on the boat… the ride was quite wild! we started playing cards, but all of us felt a little nauseaus so we decided to stand outside and enjoy the breeze.. it was soo warm! I dont know if we were actually in the Indian Ocean, or a straight that is between Zanzibar and the main land..but it was still cool to be in a new body of water! The ferry ride was about 2.5 hours.. it was so cool pulling up to Zanzi! We had to go through immigration again..although it is part of Tanzania, Zanzibar didnt used to be and they still like to think of themselves as their own country haha.. after that, we got bombarded with taxi drivers again, but just pushed our way through, because the girls would be waiting for us..
It was soooo nice to seem them, and Zanzibar is soo differenet than morogoro…much less dirt haha.. as soon as we met them we went for lunch.. good thing cause i was starving! On the way, we passed a little boat that said Fortuna on it.. i took a picture, it was cool haha..next, we were gonna go back to their house to drop off our stuff..
on the way we grabbed water.. or tried to.. we got robbed!!! The girls had bought water from this man before, so we gave him money and then we thought he was going to get it, and he ran away!! Thankfully it wasnt too much money, but it still sucked haha.. so once we got our water, we hopped in a dala dala and headed to their house.. They dala dala a lot more than we do because their house is farther out of town..
Hooooolllly SHIIIIIII (T) Sorry, but that was nessesary, their house is absolutely georgous.. it is nicer than some hotels in Morogoro haha.. i took some pictures.. yo uwill see lol.. they have running water and tiled floors and a oven..and glass windows, they have a real toilet too!! It was nuts!! As sweet as it is though, i am happy that i am not living in something that nice.. it is totally not living like most africans do and has given them a completely different experience than we have had.. however, it was a nice change from squat toilets and concrete floors!! Oh ya, and their house is 2 floors!! There are a fair bit of higer buildings in Zanzibar which is a big change from moro. where almost everything is only one floor!
After we got settled, we headed back into town to go to the BEACH!!! hooly, that was amazing too.. the girls were so much more evenly tanned than us haha (us moro. volunteers have sweet farmer tans). we spent the rest of the afternoon there and watched the sunset which was really nice.. then we headed home for dinner..
we had chipsi and bread and watermelon (mmmm) and tea and squid.. it was a nice change from rice and beans.. the rest of the night we just spend talking with the zanzi. volunteers and catching up on how their programming/ project has been going.. in the morning, we were going on Safari Blue!!! (I am running outta time on the internet again, so i will continue writing later this week) ttyl 🙂
