Zanzibar!
I am now in Zanzibar with Gina for the week..although it is beautiful, i still like morogoro much better!! the people here just arent as nice because they are used to seeing so many tourists.. Yesterday was fun! We had to get up early to walk to the port to catch the ferry with our big packs on our back, smaller knapsack on the front, a shoulder bag wedged in between and i was carrying my pillow.. it was quite the site, we would have taken pictures if our cameras were more accessible! we got on the ferry fine, although i had no idea i could sweat so much.. i was drenched.. the boat ride went fast and gina and i took the time to plan out what we wanted to do this week..
once we got to land we had to worry about visa’s..ours were expiring the next day!! thankfully it was super easy and we got the visa extended for 3 months which is way longer than i need..then we walked with all of our stuff, again.. we were recommended to stay at the mzuri guest house which was just down the street from the port. when we arrived at the front of the building a man told us it was full and that we should go across the street to a cheaper one.. we walked in anyways and of course he was lying.. it is the low season, it isnt super busy! we knew the price here was $20.. but when we asked the guy said $25.. this is because a man had followed us up the stairs and was trying to claim that he brought us here to get commission.. we had to explain that that wasnt the case, we would only pay 20 per night and that we dont know the guy.. so finally we got settled into a room..with air conditioning!!! saaweeet
we spent the rest of the day walking around stone town.. a bought a couple things..and it took me at least 30 min in a single store to do so.. i had to barter for ever!!! but i am happy with my purchases, so it was worth it!.. after that we ate lunch and then headed for the beach!! we got there a bit late, but we were able to enjoy the sunset.. we headed home for the evening after that and i enjoyed a nice sweatless sleep with the air conditioning running all night!
Hey Baby, sounds lke you’re having an awesome time! Can’t wait to see your purchases. I pity the people trying to barter with my Katie – they really have no clue what they’re up against! You could outlast them by a mile when it comes to holding out for a price! Enjoy the rest of your time in Zanzibar. Can’t wait to see you – I leave one week today!
Love you and miss you
