Arequipa and Cabanaconde
I’m back! My first full day in Arequipa I found someone to hike the Canyon with so we went around town getting snacks, booking the bus and checking out the city. The bus to the Canyon left at 1am because it was a 6 hour bus ride and it’s best to beat the heat and start hiking in the morning. I didn’t have much of a plan for once I got there, but that’s the beauty of this kind of travel sometimes.
I had heard that there is a hostal in the town the bus arrived in that would give a map and suggest some routes to hike the Canyon, so after a breakfast of avocado and bread on the bench in the square, we went to find the hostal called Pachamama. The people there were very helpful and gave us a couple options of varying days and hour so hiking. Naturally we chose the longest route… Looking back I am so happy with the route and hiking we did, but my legs were screaming at me at the time. It also did not help that I had my big backpack with me with 75% of my things in it.
