The Oasis
The hike the next day was about 5.5 hours again but much more enjoyable because we started earlier and there was a good mix of up and down hill, aside from the downhill at the end to get back to the bottom of the Canyon. To give a visual of the route we took, we started on one side of the Canyon on day one and hike down and the crossed the River to the other side of the Canyon. The next day we hiked up and part way out of the Canyon, then walked upriver and paralleled it from above and walked back down to the river and crossed just back to the other side where we would stay the night in the Oasis. The oasis has been made for tourists, but was beautiful none the less. We stayed at a place with a pool and having arrived in the late morning, still had the rest of the afternoon and evening to enjoy the sun and warm weather.
We also were able to spend the morning and early afternoon of the next day by the pool because the hike out of the Canyon and back to the town we started in would only take 3 hours and we wanted more time by the pool. The hike out of the Canyon was tough as it was very steep and consisted of mostly steps. We made it out eventually and stayed the night at Pachamama. They had delicious pizza that was made in a wood burning oven and is what I used as my motivation to hike out of the lower Canyon!
One of the coolest parts of the hike was that at every point we could look across the Canyon and see where we would be going, or we could look back across and see where we came from. When we started the hike we realized after that we could actually see both places in the bottom of the Canyon that we eventually stayed at, yet it took a couple days and many hours of hiking to get to and from the places. The views were amazing and the pictures barely do the Canyon justice!
