The Balestas Islands
Our next day in Huacachina we got up early to do a half day tour to the islands that are often called ‘the poor man’s Galapagos’. We went to the coast and took an hour and a half boat ride out and around the island. You are not allowed to get off the boat, but we got close enough to take lots of pictures. The primary animals on the islands were Peruvian boobies, sea lions and another kind of black bird that I can’t remember the name of. There were SO many birds it was crazy, birds flying and sitting everywhere. We also saw a couple penguins on the one side of the island that are apparently less likely to see because they are often hiding in the caves. It was crazy to see so much wildlife all in one place and up so close. It definitely got me excited to see the actual Galapagos islands which I will be doing in Ecuador!
The tour only took up the morning so we bought a bottle of wine and snacks while we were in the town and then headed back to Huacachina for some more relaxing by the pool in the afternoon. I actually spent a lot of yesterday catching up on my blog so i am finally up to date! Today we don’t have anything pplanned. I might try to hike to the top of the dunes around the laguna to enjoy the view and get a bit of exercise this morning!
