Halloween in Cusco
I didn’t do a whole lot during the day again today. Halloween is only really celebrated in the bigger cities in Peru. My hostel was completely decorated and some bars and restaurants were as well. I went to the main plaza in the early evening to see if anything was going on. There were a ton of kids dressed up and they were all handing candy out to each other. There were a ton of spidermans and princesses!
Back at the hostel some of the guests were dressing up and getting ready for a night out, but I stress enough about thinking up a costume at home, I didn’t want to do the same here! The hostel put on a Bbq that I decided to join in on. I finally tried Alpaca meat after 7 weeks of being here! It was quite good and tasted like a mild version of lamb. I socialized for a little while in the evening before heading to bed.
This morning my plan was to go take a one hour free Spanish lesson that I saw a flyer for. I walked to the office that was in a nice courtyard and I found out also was a hotel for volunteers that were with the organization. I couldn’t locate the office right away because as it turns out, today is a holiday so it was closed. As a tourist it is difficult to figure these things out! I probably would have never known it was a holiday if I didn’t go there and would have just run into another parade tonight not knowing what it was for!
I am just sitting in the main plaza right now enjoying some sunshine while it is here. It has rained almost every day here, but thankfully it has mostly been in the evening. Tonight I will probably come back to the main square to check out the festivities!
