Salkantay Trek day 4
Today was so much fun! We were given three options for the day. One was to hike all the way to our next destination. The other was to take a bus part way and then walk the rest, and the third option was to zip line for the morning, take a bus half way and then walk the other half. I obviously chose to do the zip lining! It ended up being so much fun! I tried going backwards and hanging upside down. On the last line I went ‘superman style’ which was flat on my stomach going head first! It was a nice change from all the walking we had been doing and we still got some nice views while flying between mountains!
The second half of the day was about a 3 hour hike to Aguas Calientes. The hike was flat and fairly easy as we were just following the train tracks. The trail took us behind Machu Picchu mountain and we could see a tiny bit of the ruins from that angle. It was neat for me because I had been told on the previous trek how Machu Picchu was strategically located with the backside of the mountain being almost flat, making it difficult to access. So I could actually see what the guide was referring to.
It was a bit more rewarding to arrive at our destination tonight because we would be staying in a hostel with hot water. It was so nice to have a hot shower and a bed to sleep in! We had dinner at a restaurant in town and then headed to bed to rest up for seeing Machu Picchu the next morning!
