Cuenca
Our day in Cuenca didn’t end up consisting of too much because we didn’t want to spend a lot if money. In the morning we went to the central market to get some breakfast and juice. After we went to the main square to check it out and look through the huge cathedral. In the afternoon we went for a walk beside the river that splits the city between the historical part and the newer area. There was a free museum near our hostel that ended up being one of the best ones I have been to throughout my travels. Even though the whole thing wasn’t in English I discovered quite a bit about the history of Ecuador and also some of the current culture throughout the country.
In the early evening as we were regrouping before we went for dinner we made a last minute decision to pack up right away and go catch a bus to Guayaquil, another town in Ecuador. As we were doing some research for the Galapagos islands we discovered that flights only leave in the morning and that most cruise ships on the island (which is what we wanted to do) leave Saturday, Sunday or Monday. We didn’t want to waste any more time and the Galapagos were next on our agenda so we figured why not! There are thankfully many buses that frequently go to Guayaquil and the ride was only 4 hours, so we didn’t have a problem getting there. We arrived around midnight and since there was wifi in the bus station we decided to book a flight for the next morning. After successfully doing that we found a hostel that was close by and decided to stay the night so we could get some rest before catching our flight in the morning!
