Guayaquil to the Galapagos
I am now sitting in a hammock at my hostel in the Galapagos islands. It was just over 24 hours ago that we made the last minute decision to fast track our way here! The flight was a bit delayed, but everything else went smoothly. We had to go through a more extensive customs routine to get here because the whole islands are protected and they want to make sure nothing is being brought over (fruits, vegetables, seeds, etc) to mess with the eco system! Once the plane landed we still had to go through a combination of buses and water taxis before arriving to Puerto Ayora – the main city on Santa Cruz island ( one of the three main islands) . Through advice from people along the way we planned to just show up and book a cruise tour last minute to get the best deal. This afternoon was spent searching around for the best offer. We ended up booking a 6 day cruise on a first class boat that leaves on Monday! We paid less than half of the regular price :).
Now we have tomorrow free to explore the island we are on and we will still have an extra day after the cruise to relax. We heard that not much relaxing happens on the cruise because there is so much to see, so we will try to rest up tomorrow…maybe on a beach 🙂
