Cruise – day 2
What a disaster! After the first day of having a few mix ups I expected things to go up hill… We started off with an amazing breakfast and then headed to our first island called North Seymor to do a hike. the hike was very good and we saw tons of interesting birds (that I can’t remember the name of other than the blue footed boobies) and some land iguanas and sea lions. The craziest part is that you see so many animals all at once. Most of the time you don’t know where to look because there is so much going on. After the hike things went downhill.
We had to refuel first before carrying on which ended up taking a bit longer than expected. We eventually started sailing but were then told we would be going slowly because we left one of our small zodiac boats behind to wait for official permission to sail because it is needed before you continue but the systems were down and the captain didn’t want to wait. Long story short, the captain lost track of the guy in the little boat whose last contact was that he could see our boat and would be there soon, but he never showed up. We were just about at the destination of our stop, but instead had to turn around to try to find the guy (who they failed to give a radio to, just a cell phone that they presumed was dead at this point). We had just about everyone on the front of the boat looking for the guy because we were concerned the small motor may have failed and he was stranded. Eventually they decided he must have made it to our destination and took a different route without us seeing him. Before sending out a search party they decided we would turn around again to see if he was waiting. Thankfully he ended up being in his boat waiting for us at the next island because he had to stay close to the shore because of rough waters but lots cell connection. As a result of all the turning around we lost out on our snorkeling we were supposed to do and had to keep going to our next destination. As an apology they ended up giving us free drinks for the night so we had a bit of a party with the crew and other passengers.
I don’t think I mentioned yet that we have a fantastic group of passengers. We are all quite young and everyone is a ton of fun, so it took some of the stress off the day and has made for an otherwise fun trip so far!
