Cruise – day 5
Thankfully last night we didn’t do too much sailing so I was able to get some sleep. We woke up this morning to some clouds (like most days) but it was still nice and warm. We were in another bay on Isabela island. The first activity of the day was another zodiac ride around the bay and into a cool area surrounded by mangrove trees where the water was shallow enough to see the bottom. We first saw a ton of penguins swimming around in the water. We also saw a bunch of the blue footed boobies fishing. I’m not sure if I have mentioned it previously, but they are really fun to watch because they fly around and then all of a sudden dive bomb into the water and pop up a couple seconds later. We also saw lots more sea turtles swimming around along with sea lions who were sleeping in the mangroves.
We then headed to Point Moreno that is off of Isabela island to do some snorkeling after lunch. The snorkeling was absolutely freezing again, but it was our last chance so everyone went in. Apparently I took too long to get in again so the boat driver pushed me in this time! There were schools of big fish and the biggest sea turtles I have seen so far. The waters were a bit more rough so it got difficult to see at times.
When we finished snorkeling we got changed and went back to the island to do some hiking around. The terrain was cool because it was from black lava and was flat for as far as you could see. It sounded like glass as you walked over it. There were lagunas that popped up out of no where as you were walking and we were lucky enough to see a couple flamingos from very close up.
We finished the hike and then headed back to the boat to watch the sunset across the bay since it was finally a clear enough day. We will be sailing for most of the night again so I doubt we will get a solid sleep!
