Cruise -day 6
Today was the last day on the cruise 🙁 It was sad to say goodbye to everyone we met because we had such a great time with them. In the morning we went for a hike on another part of Isabela island where we had a great viewing point of two big white tipped Galapagos sharks. After the hike we went to the main port on Isabela island and went inland to do a hike to the crater of Sierra Negra Volcano. The hike was easy, but it was quite cloudy and misty when we got to the top so we didn’t have the clearest view.
It was still cool to see and we ate lunch over looking it and got a few good glimpses when the clouds parted.
After the hike back down we stopped to walk around a breeding Centre for land tortoises and saw tons varying in age from 1 year to probably around 100. It is crazy to see how small they start out and then how big they can grow. On the drive back to the beach we stopped briefly at a laguna that had about 10 flamingos, but we couldn’t view them as close as we did the day before.
For the rest of the afternoon we finally had some time to relax and lounge at the beach. Some of the others went snorkeling off the beach and saw sting rays, but I wasn’t brave enough to go in. We finally had to say bye to half of the group who was continuing on the cruise for another couple days.
The group of us who were staying on Isabela island got our bags and went to find a hostel. We found a beautiful one on the beach that included a super fun beach bar. We spent the evening wandering around the town and enjoying the quaint island atmosphere. I like it much better than Santa Cruz because it is still fairly undeveloped with dirt roads and a more laid back feel.
