Back to Quito
I am back in Quito mow since my flight will be leaving from here on Tuesday. It feels kind of right finishing the trip how I started – on my own. Walking around yesterday and today reminded me about some of my experiences traveling by yourself that I may have otherwise forgotten.
I didn’t do much yesterday, but today I decided to go on one more adventure and check out the equator. As it would be expected, they have made it into quite the tourist attraction. I didn’t actually go into the most popular part where the big monument on the recommendation of others. It is not actually where the equator is, but it is where they calculated it to be years ago without gps. Instead I went to a museum down the road that claims to be the actual equator. I have also been told that is false, and my gps app on my phone confirmed it, but it is close! They also have a number of gimmicky experiments like pouring water down a tub and watching how it swirls and balancing an egg on a nail. In not sure I believe all of it, but it was interesting none the less and they also gave some history about Ecuador as well.
It didn’t end up taking long to visit the equator, so I spent the rest of the day reading..something I have surprisingly done very little of on my trip. I have one more day to enjoy tomorrow before heading home!
Hey Katie,
