Sunday..
Sunday was an interesting day.. a couple of the girls from Zanzi. wanted to do a safari so they were up and gone early in the morning.. the other two girls wanted to climb the ulurugu mountains a bit, so we said that we would show them up a little ways.. that was a bad idea on my part!!
I wasnt feeling the greatest when i woke up that morning and i hadnt had a good sleep either, but i figured it wasnt fair to send the other girls up while i sat at the motel..we didnt get very far because we couldnt navigate ourselves as well as we thought!! we ended up just sitting at the edge of a section of the river for quite a while.. once we got back down the mountain i had an awesome shower!! there was a shower head and everything.. i would have liked to just rest for a while, but i had a pair of pants at the fundi that i had to pick up in town..after i picked them up i had a short nap before going to jess’s to do de-brief.. i was continually feeling worse throughout the day, but it just felt like stomach cramps and i didnt think much of it..
i didnt quite last through the de-brief at Jess’s.. we started at 2pm and had lunch there which was fine..at about 5pm i couldnt sit there any longer so i went to lay outside for a while until it got dark, then i moved to the spare room in her house.. by the time de-brief was done at 7:30pm, i was about to pass out.. once everyone left, Makho took me to the hospital because the clinic was closed at this point.. i got some tests done but the results wouldnt be ready for 2 hours, so i had to go back to the motel to wait..i was still quite uncomfortable..once i made it back to the hospital to get the results i found out i haaaaaaadddd…………………………malaria!! can you believe it?! i think i mentioned before how another girl from my project had it earlier this month and she was the second one ever to get it with YCI.. or at least with YCI-Tanzania, i cant remember.. so what are the chances that two people would get it in one project!!
It isnt as bad as i had thought..its just like getting the flu in Canada.. so i got some medication and felt surprisingly better in the morning.. everyone else was travelling to Dar in the morning to either head home or begin their travels, but i was fine with staying another day in Moro. to rest. Since i felt so much better, Gina and I just decided to take it slow and go a bit later in the day to Dar. We left an hour and a half after the other girls on the bus and arrived at the hostel before them!!! Thats the crazy bus systems of tanzania for ya! The bus ride was quick, but i was exhausted so i decided to just rest in the room the rest of the day. We had to say bye to Mandy, Chelsey and Mel in the evening :(..everyone is going different directions now!
Well usually people don’t use exclaimation marks when they are talking about malaria…lol but if it floats your boat. I’m glad you’re feeling better, you kind of scared me. Get better, don’t die or I’ll kill you!
