Machu Picchu day 2
On the second day we were woken up at 5 am to start the day with a warm cup of tea in our tent. We were also given a bucket of warm water to wash up. The breakfast was amazing with porridge, crepes and toast to get us ready for the hike ahead.
We started hiking around 7am with the first hour or so being similar to the day before. This day was a challenging one as we had about 3 hours of straight and steep up hill to reach what is called Dead Woman’s pass and was the highest mountain pass we made at around 4200m. I made it up without too much trouble and then finished the days hike with an hour of steep downhill to our camp for the night. Although many of you may not believe it, i was one of the first in our group to make it to camp that day with the others coming about 2 hours later. I guess the previous hiking I have done on this trip has paid off!
The total hours of hiking was about 6 hours so we had the rest of the afternoon to relax. Later we had tea time and snacks and then a delicious dinner once again before heading to bed for another early morning.
Our guide, Washington continued to be fantastic and kept us entertained on the hike and at meal time. For our meals we all sat squished in a tent with a small table and stools to sit on. I loved every minute of it because it all added to the experience of hiking and camping on the Inca Trail up to Machu Picchu! Our group was a total of 8 people hiking plus our guide, cook and 8 porters carrying the equipment and supplies. We were lucky to have a great group with 2 girls from Denmark, a man from Australia, a woman from Argentina and a couple from the US.
