Chiclayo
We arrived early in the morning to Chiclayo and didn’t have a problem finding a place to stay. We realized quite quickly that this was not much of a tourist town as we got a lot of stares from the locals! It was nice though to be out of a touristy area after being around it for the last month. I can only say ‘no, gracias’ so many times to people trying to sell me things in the streets.
We didn’t do too much the first day in Chiclayo other than wonder around and book our bus ticket for the next day to Chachapoyas. We didn’t have anything planned for this town because we really only stopped to break up the bus ride from Lima to Chachapoyas.
The next day our bus didn’t leave until the evening so we decided to make a trip to a museum with good reviews in a neighbouring town about 20 mins away. As always, the bus ride on a local bus was half the fun of the trip just people watching as the locals go about their day. Everyone was super helpful and friendly in pointing us in the right direction.
The museum itself was quite good as far as museums go with a well thought out layout. It was showcasing th.e tombs of people from a tribe during the pre Inca times in northern Peru. The archeological site where they were found was only discovered about 30 years ago, so the information about the group of people is still quite new. Which reminds me to mention that as another highlight of my travels so far. A lot of the historical sites and history I have heard about has only recently (relative to some cultures) been discovered and is often still in the process of being discovered. I love that if I came back here in 20 years there would likely be so much new history discovered.
After the ruins and getting back to town we had some time to kill before catching the bus. We finally invested in some tupperware (which I have been meaning to do for weeks) so that we could prepare food before hand and take it on the bus. We made some guacamole and a fruit salad that ended up being our dinner later on 🙂
