Otavalo market
Today has felt like an eternity. We got up early to start our journey to Otavalo which is about two hours outside Quito. We wanted to save some money so we took local transportation to the main bus terminal that took about 30 minutes. Once we got to the bus station we were in for a surprise…the line for tickets to Otavalo was about 200m long and it took us about an hour and a half to get a ticket and finally get on the bus.
A two hour bus ride feels like nothing to us at this point, so it went by quick. The market was huge! We didn’t even get to see all the stalls because it is so big. We tried to take our time bargaining and looking at what everyone had before buying some gifts and things to take home. It was actually quite fun bargaining with the vendors, although as tourists I’m sure we still overpaid.
After being in a few big cities and touristy areas it was really nice to be in an indigenous town with much more culture. Part of the day I just spent observing what was around me. Tonight we just had a quite dinner and are back at the hostel. We are going to get up early again tomorrow to have one more look at everything before heading back to Quito.
